Por una razón aún desconocida, la estatua de Andrés de Quintana Roo, que se ubicaba en el acceso al antiguo Palacio Municipal, esta mañana fue encontrada en una esquina, junto a un predio baldío, a corta distancia de Plaza Las Américas de esta ciudad.
La estatua, sin pedestal o algún cartel o indicativo de qué se trata, fue descubierta sin ceremonia en el cruce de las avenidas Paseo Central y 125, prácticamente expuesta a ser robada, por estar hecha de bronce.
La estatua en cuestión llevaba más de 10 años en la Plaza 28 de Julio, donde podía ser vista a un lado de la efigie de Leona Vicario, cuya ubicación se desconoce, hasta el momento.
Se presume que ambas estatuas fueron retiradas debido a las obras de remodelación que se realizan en la explanada ya citada.
Lo inexplicable es por qué esta efigie, que pertenece al patrimonio del municipio, fue puesta en una banqueta, a unos 200 metros del nuevo Palacio Municipal, en una zona de poca presencia vecinal.
Esta no es la primera vez que algún monumento, de propiedad municipal, se ve comprometido, pues en marzo del año pasado, unas esculturas de unas tortugas exhibidas en una rotonda de la avenida Paseo Central (detrás de Plaza las Américas) desaparecieron.
Entrevistado al respecto, Benny Millán, secretario de Servicios Públicos, aseguró que estas estatuas habían sido robadas. NO obstante, poco después dichas efigies aparecieron en las instalaciones de esta dependencia, y eventualmente fueron colocadas de vuelta en esta rotonda.
