México sufrió una contundente derrota 71-91 ante Montenegro en su debut en el Mundial FIBA 2023. Los 12 Guerreros dieron pelea solo el primer cuarto ante la selección europea, pero la estrella de los Chicago Bulls, Nikola Vucevic lideró a su país con 27 puntos para obtener una victoria trascendental en busca de llegar a segunda ronda.
Vucevic añadió 10 rebotes a su actuación para firmar un doble-doble. Francisco Cruz fue el mejor anotador de México, con 16 puntos, además de tres rebotes y seis asistencias.
El resultado puso a Montenegro en el primer lugar del grupo D, que más tarde concluirá su primer jornada con el duelo Lituania-Egipto.

Cruz y Stoll encestaron cuatro puntos cada uno, sin embargo, México no supo contrarrestar la superioridad física de los montenegrinos.
